Wembley Arena will host the 2014 BBL Playoff Final for the second consecutive year as British basketball continues to grow rapidlyAugust 16 - The British Basketball League (BBL), are looking to capitalise on the growth of the sport even further in the United Kingdom by once again holding their Playoff Final at the 8,500-capacity Wembley Arena in London next year.

The BBL has seen attendances rise by 27 per cent on average this season, whilst the Copper Box Arena on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park was full to its capacity of over 6,000 when BBL side the London Lions took on Iowa University on Wednesday (August 14) and when Great Britain faced Puerto Rico last weekend.

After also selling-out Wembley Arena for this year's BBL Playoff Final, in which the Leicester Riders overcame the Newcastle Eagles by 68-57 to lift the trophy, the showpiece match will return to London in May next year with high hopes of another sold-out venue.

Last year's finalists are both looking good for a return to Wembley Arena, with the Riders currently romping clear at the top of the BBL table with a record of 30 wins and just three losses this season, and the Eagles following behind in second place, ten points off the top spot with 50 points- some eight points clear of their nearest contenders, the Glasgow Rocks and Surrey Heat.

BBL chief operating officer Andy Webb said: "Last year's final was a great event and a great advert for the sport and this year's promises to be even better."

Wembley Arena was used to host badminton and rhythmic gymnastics at the London 2012 Olympic Games, and is situated adjacent to Wembley Stadium, the home of the English national football team, which hosted the football finals during the Games.

Ticket details for the 2014 BBL Playoff Final will be announced in the near future.
