ndukusamuel-b6bafMarch 18 - Samuel Nduku has set his sights on qualification for the 2014 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Basketball World Cup in Spain after gaining re-election as chairman of the Cameroon Basketball Federation (FECABASKET).


Nduku ensured he would retain his position after receiving 46 of the 56 votes available during the elections, and has confirmed that qualification for the World Cup next year is one of his key targets for his next four-year term.

"The FIBA Basketball World Cup is definitely one of our objectives," he told FIBA.com.

Cameroon must finish in the top three teams from the 2013 Afrobasket in the Ivory Coast capital of Abidjan in order to qualify for the World Cup, and Nduku has assured that there is a strategy in place to give the side the best chance of qualification for the tournament.

"Cameroon have been drawn in the Ivory Coast 2013 Afrobasket Group D along with Nigeria, Republic of Congo" he continued.

"We already have a plan in place."

"Our men's team is having a training camp in China between July and August, before we travel to Abidjan."

However, Nduka confirmed that FECABASKET are yet to decide the coaching position of the men's team.

"We are talking to both Michel Perrin and Lazare Adingono, and we are also in contact with the Ministry of Sports to have a say because of the terms of the contracts." he said.

"We are currently working on insurance for our professional players.

"Our women's team will play a tournament in the Francophone Games, and have a training camp in Strasbourg, France, before they travel to Maputo [venue for the 2013 women's Afrobasket].

"The women team's objective is to improve the classification from the previous Afrobasket,"
