FIBA 2014 Basketball World Cup logoFebruary 27 - The sale of sponsorship packages for the 2014 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Basketball World Cup in Spain are now almost complete over 500 days before the competition takes place.


The Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) updated FIBA on preparations for the event at an executive summit in Alcobendas, where they revealed a number key sponsors already in place for the tournament.

As well as Turkish international home appliances brand Beko, who will be the Presenting Sponsor of the event, the four leading Spanish companies CaixaBank, Endesa, Iberia and San Miguel are backign the event

In addition, Mutua Madrilena and Halcon Viajes have both signed up as National Supporters.

These companies join FIBA's seven long-term Global Partners who are bwin, Champion, Intersport, Molten, Peak, Tissot and Turespana.

All these companies have been granted exclusive communications rights in their respective product categories for the competition, which is due to take place from August 30 to September 14 next year in both Barcelona and Madrid.

It means that sponsorship sales for FIBA's flagship event are now close to being finalised, with discussions on-going for the remaining two international and three National Supporters packages still available.

"In a period when people regularly raise concerns about the state of the economy – especially in Europe – it is extremely encouraging to be able to count on a great group of companies," said FIBA President Yvan Mainini.

"FIBA and FEB not only rely on their financial contributions, but just as importantly will need their promotional support to make the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup a resounding success worldwide."

Ticket sales for the event are set to begin on April 17, marking 500 days before the start of the Championship, when an international promotional campaign for the World Cup will begin.

"From the outset, it was our objective to grow the World Cup on two levels: the duration and scope of the event," said FEB President Jose Luis Saez.

"With the international campaign, we take the event outside of Spain and around the globe.

"We are very happy about the great co-operation with FIBA and look forward to working with them and all companies gathered here today to make this an unforgettable event."
