Denmark breezed past England to win the European Mixed Team Championship ©BadmintonEuropeDenmark overcame England in the European Mixed Team Badminton Championship final in Leuven to reclaim the title they lost to Germany two years ago.

Both teams entered the final off the back of hard fought 3-2 victories over Germany and Russia respectively, and England felt the cost early on as they would be without Rajiv Ouseph for the men's singles match due to injury.

His absence meant England needed to get off to a positive start in the women's singles match, but Fontaine Chapman came up against an inspired Line Kjærsfeldt, who saw off the Englishwoman's challenge in straight games, 21-14, 21-11.

"There has been a bitter taste in our months since losing two years ago so we have come here very focused to put things right," said Kjærsfeldt after her victory.

"It was key to win the opening singles and of course I am happy I got this point for the team."

Kjærsfeldt's comments reflected the Danish desire to claw back the title and European men's singles champion Jan Ø Jørgensen put his team one step closer to achieving their goal as he overcame Ouseph's replacement Toby Penty in straight games.

It left Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen with the opportunity to complete the job in the women's doubles match and the world number twos were never threatened by the prospect of an upset as they earned a 21-9, 21-14 victory over Lauren Smith and Heather Olver.

The 3-0 win over England means Denmark have won the title for the 15th time and now hold all four major team events in Europe, while England have now lost the last six meetings between the sides in the Mixed Team Championship final.
