Poul-Erik Høyer, President of the sport's world governing body, today announced the winning bids after delegations from the prospective host cities presented their plans for the events to the BWF Council in New Delhi, India.

Kunshan fought off competition from Indonesia's capital, Jakarta, to stage the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals and will bring the tournament to the Kunshan Sports Centre, which can seat more than 5,000 spectators.

Ironically, Kunshan had lost to Jakarta in the race for the 2015 BWF World Championships late last year, but it was second time lucky for the Chinese city.

"This is the second time we have bid for a major event in badminton and we have finally won," said Guan Fengliang, Kunshan's Vice-Mayor.

"We will make full use of this precious opportunity and we will contribute to the promotion of badminton worldwide.

"We will share the charm of Kunshan and we invite you all to Kunshan."

Lima was the only city campaigning to host the World Junior Championships, but the BWF Council still needed to ensure the bid met the necessary criteria, particularly with the proposed venue - the National Sports Village - still currently under construction.

Peruvian Badminton Sports Federation President Zarko Cukic thanked the BWF for showing confidence in the capital city's ability to host the flagship junior competition and said it is "an opportunity to promote badminton in the region and for officials to get more experience".

"We will be able to consolidate the BWF brand in our region," he added.

"We are awaiting all of you with open arms."
