The 47-year-old Danish former player and the only non-Asian to ever win an Olympic gold medal, who was elected to replace South Korea's Kang Young Joong as BWF President last month, steps down after three years of service at the sport's continental governing body.

The Badminton Europe Council, who met in Riga, Latvia, has accepted his resignation and vice-president João Matos of Portugal has been named as interim President until the annual delegates' meeting in April next year.
