Pistorius TV_interview_2_4_SeptSeptember 4 - Oscar Pistorius has escaped punishment from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) following his outburst in the immediate aftermath of his loss to Alan Fonteles Cardoso Oliveira in the 200 metres T44 final with the organisation's President, Sir Philip Craven, contentiously handing his full backing to the South African.

The 25-year-old double-leg amputee launched a shocking verbal attack (pictured top) on Oliveira during a television interview after he had been beaten into second place by the Brazilian, five years his junior.

Pistorius had claimed he had lost because of the length of his rival's prosthetic blades and had not been competing in "a fair race".

The four-time Paralympic sprint champion, who participated in the London 2012 Olympics, also criticised the IPC, insisting his concerns about the issue had "fallen on deaf ears" during previous conversations with the body.

Despite the controversial rant the IPC confirmed today Pistorius will escape disciplinary action with Sir Philip supporting the Paralympics poster boy.

"When I was a wheelchair basketball player and I thought the referee had got it wrong I was right in their face," said the IPC President at a press conference.

"So, on that point, I can understand his reaction.

"I guess there is just incredible sadness and surprise from Oscar having lost.

"But the rules were followed and that is the way it is."

Sir Philip (pictured below) added: "I know Oscar and he is a really great guy – I'm sure he will come back from this and remain the man that he is."

IPC communications director Craig Spence also revealed that he has agreed to sit down on an official basis with Pistorius to discuss his grievances.

"We're waiting for the National Paralympic Committee of South Africa to go through the official channels to contact the IPC and an official meeting will be set up," he explained.

Pistorius is still scheduled to take part in 100m and 400m T44 races as well as 4x100m relay T42/T46 during the Games and is due face Oliveira again in all three events.
