Coming to the position with 13 years experience at Bank of America, most recently as a senior vice-president of global sponsorship marketing in which he marketed the Chicago Marathon, Hadzima will be responsible for running the business of the umbrella brand, which covers the Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York City marathons.

He will also work to help raise the profile of the athletes competing in the six races and will work jointly with the event organisers to drive forward both the elite and mass participatory levels of the series.

"Tim brings more than a decade of experience to this position and we are excited to welcome him to the Abbott World Marathon Majors team," said Carey Pinkowski, executive race director of the Chicago Marathon.

"His sponsorship experience and knowledge of each race in the series will play a critical role as the series grows and continues to be a global leader in elite and mass participation marathons."

Hadzima's appointment follows the announcement of a new partnership between the World Marathon Majors and health care firm Abbott, which becomes the race series' first ever title sponsor next year.

The next World Marathon Majors Series is due to begin in Tokyo on February 22, 2015.
