Ennis proved one of the major hits at the London 2012 Olympic Games as she took gold in the heptathlon, while Farah made history as he claimed victory in both the 5,000 and 10,000 metres to become the first British athlete to achieve the feat.

The pair will be joined by Olympic long jump champion Greg Rutherford, who memorably claimed victory on the same day that Ennis and Farah won gold medals at the Olympic Stadium in what has been dubbed "Super Saturday".

The event is due to take place on July 26 until 28, with the first two days to consist of International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League action and the final day to be a one-off International Paralympic Committee (IPC) International Challenge.

"I have amazing memories of competing in the Olympic Stadium last year and it will be good to step out on that track again in front of a British crowd," said Ennis, who will be competing in the 100m hurdles and long jump at the event.

"I will never forget the noise the crowd made when I competed last August and know that the draw of the stadium and the great line up of athletes will fill the stands and make it another incredible occasion."


Other high profile British athletes set to be in attendance include London 2012 women's 400m silver medallist Christine Ohuruogu and men's high jump bronze medallist Robbie Grabarz.

There is also a strong British Paralympic line up for the IPC International Challenge on the final day of the London Anniversary Games, with London 2012 champions Jonnie Peacock, Richard Whitehead, Mickey Bushell and Josie Pearson set to take part.

"I'm really excited, as it's great to race in front of the British public and make them happy," said Peacock, who won gold in the men's T44 100m at London 2012.

"There's a huge positive energy in the Stadium and it's a bonus that it's a super quick track.

"It holds great memories for me and it will be great to go back there nearly a year on and see what I've got to offer."

The international athletes set to compete at the event will be named later this week with Jamaica's Usain Bolt set to be feature.

Sainsbury's has already been unveiled as the headline sponsor of the event and The National Lottery was today confirmed as the Event Partner.

"We are excited that The National Lottery will be partnering with us on the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games and it is entirely appropriate that the event will offer an opportunity to recognise the unique role of lottery players in delivering an incredible summer of sport last year," UK Athletics chairman Ed Warner said.

"Beyond that, athletics has never been so well supported as it is now through the lottery-buying public and we look forward to ensuring that investment is recognised over the coming years, through our long term partnership."
