This will be the first time Mexico has hosted the World Championships, while next year's World Cup final will be the second time the event will be staged in the country following on from the 2006 World Cup Final held in the Mayapan Pyramids.

World Archery claimed Mexico has developed into a key market for international archery following the team's success at the London 2012 Olympic Games, and hopes that by awarding two elite events to the country's capital, strong development and community engagement programmes can be built to complement the continued growth of archery in Latin America.

Aida Roman and Marianna Avitia won women's recurve silver and bronze respectively at London 2012.

The sport's international governing body says a strong bid backed by the Mexican Government, national broadcasters and Mexico City's Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera and director of sport, Horacio De La Vega, persuaded it to award both events to the same organiser.

"Archery is central to Mexico's sport programme following the success the nation's athletes have already achieved," said De La Vega.

"It is a sport on the rise in popularity and participation and there is a significant audience for its international events and athletes within the country.

"It's now time for Mexico City to showcase the best of itself, internationally, thanks to great athletes."

Moveo Lab will organise both tournaments after it successfully staged the inaugural Mexican Challenge in November last year, which saw eight of Mexico's top archers take on eight leading international stars.

"Athletes were at the centre of the decision to award these events to Mexico City," said World Archery secretary general Tom Dielen.

"Mexico's archers have been asking for an international tournament in their country for some time, and they are one of the most internationally competitive teams right now.

"With the Mexican Challenge concept, this Organising Committee proved that it shares our values of putting athletes at the heart of international archery competition.

"We are confident it will build on that success with two of World Archery's flagship tournaments."

The 2015 World Cup final is set to take place on October 24 and 25 next year and will see 32 of the world's top archers competing in compound and recurve competitions following a four-event qualifying series.

The biennial World Championships feature athletes competing for titles in individual compound and recurve events, as well as men's and women's team competitions and a mixed team event.

More than 500 competitors from more than 70 nations are expected to take part in the 2017 Championships, which are scheduled to take place in October with the exact dates yet to be finalised.

Next year's World Championships are being held in Copenhagen and are due to take place from July 26 to August 2.

The Championships also provide archers with their first opportunity to secure a qualifying spot for Rio 2016.

The 2014 World Cup final is due to be held in the Swiss city of Lausanne from September 5 to 7.
