A total of 93 delegates voted for Erdener to continue in his role with just two opposing the Turkish Olympic Committee President taking up another term as World Archery chief.

He had first been elected in 2005, replacing American James Easton, and been re-elected in 2009.

Erdener, a professor of ophthalmology at Hacettepe University in Ankara, is also President of the National Olympic Committee of Turkey and had played a leading role in Istanbul's unsuccessful bid to host the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics. 

María Emma Gaviria of Colombia, Sanguan Kosavinta of Thailand and Philippe Bouclet of France were all voted in as vice-Presidents, whilst American Greg Easton - son of former President James - Russia's Vladimir Esheev and Egyptian Aladin Gabr gained four-year terms on the Executive Board.

In a statement, World Archery also professed to be "very proud" that Gabr, who serves as the World Africa Archery President, had become the first African member of its Executive Board.

"The number of Member Associations is growing steadily in Africa and therefore having a member in the Executive Board is a logical consequence of the development of archery in Africa," they said.
