The 24-year-old from Yorkshire was only called up to compete as a late replacement but produced an outstanding performance to reach the final of the compound event. 

The double Paralympic gold medallist eventually lost to America's Jamie Van Natta in a thrilling final, that went right down to the last arrow.

Van Natta, in her fifth World Cup final, and chasing her second gold medal, led by three points going into the final end.

But a final arrow 10 from Brown left the 34-year-old American needing a nine for victory - and she held her nerve to secure the top prize.

"I'm so thrilled," said Brown, who suffers from reflex sympathetic dystrophy in the feet and competes sitting down or leaning on a stool.

"I was a late call up, and it gave me a great opportunity to go up against the best compound archers in the world, and I've come away with a silver medal.

"I managed to shoot better scores than at the Paralympics. 

"I'm so pleased."

Brown is the fourth British archer to win a medal at this event, after silvers won by Nichola Simpson and Simon Terry, and a bronze by Alan Wills.

Indeed, it was Van Natta who beat Simpson in the 2008 final in Lausanne. 

Braden Gellenthien celebrates winning the World Cup final in Tokyo with a bow borrowed from his girlfriend

Braden Gellenthien made it a double for the United States by winning the men's compound final, having previously won the silver medal three times. 

He beat countryman Reo Wilde in the final after needing a 10 with the final arrow.

Gellenthien had also been using a bow borrowed from his girlfriend after his own broke on the eve of the final.

"This is my fourth World Cup final," said Gellenthien.

"I had come so close to winning, with three silver medals.

"And to do it in such circumstances, needed a 10 on my last arrow to clinch.

"I still haven't realised that it happened yet.

"I want to thank my girlfriend Tristan Skarvan, as it was with her bow that I shot to win gold.

"My bow broke just a few days before the final, and I've been using hers only since four days.

"It's the bow that she shot to win the silver medal at this year's [World] University [Archery Championships] in Cordoba."
