April 11 - The line-ups for the medal matches at this year's Commonwealth Water Polo Championships have been decided ©Scottish SwimmingThe line-ups for the medal matches at this year's Commonwealth Water Polo Championships were confirmed today, as Scotland's men and women sealed their spots with victories over Singapore and Wales.

In the men's competition, the Scots only had to avoid defeat to the bottom side Singapore to set up their clash with South Africa, and they got the job done in relative comfort as they recorded a 12-6 win.

Four goals from Ali Campbell and two apiece from James Scobie and Fraser Rutherford helped the hosts to secure the win and condemn Singapore to their fifth defeat of the competition.

New Zealand ensured that Wales also finished the tournament at the Aberdeen Aquatics Centre without a win as they powered to a 9-1 victory, led by impressive performances from Adam Pye, Tyler Vao and Matt Small.

The other men's match on the penultimate day was a dress rehearsal for tomorrow's gold medal match, and it was England who laid down a marker as they romped to a 10-3 win over Malta.

Both sides came into the contest boasting 100 per cent records and many expected it to be a cagey affair considering they will meet in the big one tomorrow.

A brace from Ciaran Clark and a James Vincent strike had England 3-0 up after the first period and that was doubled by halftime.

The third quarter saw Malta hit the self-destruct button as top goalscorer Matt Zammitt was majored out after scoring his side's first, while Michele Stellini and Jordan Camilleri were sent off for separate offences.

Malta played a lot better in the fourth as England eased off, and despite goals from Alex Littschwager and Dino Zammit, the English held on for a comfortable win.

The first match of the day saw Scotland's women register a close fought 6-5 win over Wales as a Holly Campbell hatrick for the hosts made sure that if Scotland can cause an upset against South Africa tomorrow, they will pick up the bronze.

The South Africans were last out to the pool in Aberdeen to take on Wales in their second match of the day and the hectic schedule eventually took its toll on the Welsh.

Led by Megan Parkes and Kieren Paley, South Africa raced into a 5-0 first quarter lead and despite the efforts of Nicola Edwards and Elinor Weatherill, who showed well for the Welsh, the South Africans went on to secure a 14-4 win.

That sets up a Scotland versus South Africa bronze medal double-header tomorrow, while England will be looking to secure double-gold as the men take on Malta and the women face Canada.

All the action from the final day in Aberdeen will be streamed live on the Scottish Swimming website.
