Among the 33 swimmers - 17 women and 16 men - featuring on the team that is hoping to retain its title at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre, the host venue for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games swimming events, on December 20-21 are 16 Olympians, including 11 champions.

Alongside London 2012 gold medallist Ledecky and five-time Olympic champion Lochte will be Tyler Clary, Conor Dwyer, Anthony Ervin, Jessica Hardy, Claire Donahue, Cullen Jones, Breeja Larson, Matt McLean and Shannon Vreeland ready to do battle with the European Allstars.

Meanwhile, Jack Bauerle and Eddie Reese - who between them have coached the United States swimming team at four Olympics Games - have been named as the head coaches of the women's and men's teams respectively.

"The Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool has become a must-watch event for swimming fans around the globe, and USA Swimming is excited to compete against a talented European team in Glasgow," USA Swimming national team director Frank Busch said.

"We've assembled a nice mix of veteran performers and rising stars on the US roster, and we look forward to racing some of the top swimmers in Europe."

Fran Halsall leads the European Allstars women for Duel in the Pool


Leading that European charge will be British London 2012 silver medallist Michael Jamieson and Commonwealth Games champion Fran Halsall.

With French Olympic champions Florent Manaudou and Yannick Agnel, triple Olympic champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands, Danish Olympic medallist Lotte Friis and Spain's former world champion Mireia Belmonte Garcia also on the team, the European Allstars will prove to be a challenge for the Americans.

"The European Allstars features by far the strongest line up we've ever seen in what will be the third of these exciting biennial events," British Swimming head coach Bill Furniss said.

"Both teams include a multitude of Olympic and world champions and medallists, and therefore the head-to-head promises to be a dramatic encounter.

"The USA are sending a very strong team so the challenge facing the Europeans will be immense but it will provide a great spectator event at the home of next year's Commonwealth Games."

The event will feature 15 events per gender - 13 individual races and two relays.

Swimmers can compete in a maximum of six events, both individual and relays, and each team may enter up to four swimmers per individual event and one relay.

The winning team is that with the most points at the end of the event.
