Overnight Monacan leaders Tor Helness and Geir Helgemo finished with an overall percentage score of 54.20, but they could not properly begin their celebrations until Israeli rivals Ophir Herbst and Ilan Herbst completed their round.

When they did, a crowd huddled around the television scoreboards outside the playing hall, only for a tie to be announced, meaning the Israeli pair took their second gold of the Games following the team title earlier in the week.

Justin Lall and Roger Lee of the United States took bronze.

Normal service was resumed in the corresponding women's event, when Dutch pair Marion Michielsen and Meike Wortel rose from second overnight to take gold, ahead of runners-up Wang Wenfei and Jingrong Ran of China.

But there was plenty of success for the host nation in Go, with China's men's team sweeping aside the US in their final match to take gold, while Yu Zhiying claimed female individual honours with victory over Chang Kai-Hsin of Taiwan.

A third Chinese gold came in blitz chess when Hou Yifan made amends for defeat in the rapid competition by dominating to win gold.

Alexander Grishchuk took the corresponding men's title.

Further medals will be available in draughts tomorrow before the Games concludes on Wednesday (December 17) with a final nine sets of medals on the line.
