March 21 – Defending champions Argentina and the United States are among 11 teams taking part in this year's Men's U-19 Youth Softball World Championships ©WBSC/USA-ASA SoftballEleven nations will take to the field in Whitehorse, Canada after the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) revealed the line-up for this year's Men's Under-19 Youth Softball World Championships, which will run from July 11 to 20.

Reigning champions Argentina lead the America's charge after claiming an historic win last time out at the 2012 Championships on home soil in Parana.

They will be joined by hosts and 1993 champions Canada, the United States, Mexico and Venezuela.

Inaugural winners Japan will be looking to go one better than their runners-up spot in Parana and they will be joined by fellow Asian representatives Singapore, who are making their second appearance at the tournament.

Australia took the bronze medal in 2012 and they will head to Canada in search of a fifth under-19 world crown, while two-time winners New Zealand also make the trip to North America.

European representation comes in the form of the Czech Republic and Denmark.

This is the tenth edition of the tournament and the fifth to be held in Canada following on from the inaugural Championships in Edmonton in 1981, followed by Summerside in 1989 and 2005, St John's in 1997, while Whitehorse also hosted the 2008 event.

"The Local Organising Committee in Whitehorse has tremendous experience in both hosting and building a sustainable legacy for the local community through the delivery of excellent Softball World Championships," said WBSC co-President Don Porter.

"I am confident the 2014 Under-19 Youth Men's Softball World Championship will be another exciting and well-organised world stage for these dedicated young athletes to shine and proudly represent these 11 national teams and their continents.

"While the sporting world is beginning to shift its focus to the youth/lifestyle demographic, the WBSC is proud to already be well-positioned and established with baseball and softball Youth World Championships across a wide range of age categories and across both genders, and we are committed to connecting with more and more youth and growing the brand of our youth properties aggressively."

The schedule for the tournament has yet to be finalised.
