The world number two, who won his third singles world title in Manchester last year, is the top seed in the men's competition and will be seeking to defend the Commonwealth Games gold medal he won in Delhi four years ago.

Matthew won men's doubles gold in Delhi also, and he and partner Adrian Grant will be the team to beat again in Glasgow as they are the top ranked pair ahead of Australians David Palmer and Cameron Pilley, while another English duo in the form of Daryl Selby and James Willstrop are third seeds.

Willstrop is seeded second in the singles competition and is on course for a repeat of the gold medal game with Matthew, while their compatriot and Delhi 2010 bronze medal winner Peter Barker is the third seed.

Pilley and India's Saurav Ghosal are expected to be the biggest threat to the English trio and are ranked fifth and fourth respectively.

On the women's side, defending champion Nicol David of Malaysia and England's Laura Massaro are seeded one and two with New Zealand's Joelle King ranked third.

David is making her fifth appearance at the Games and the world number one is set to renew her rivalry with reigning world champion Massaro.

Massaro lost out to the 30-year-old Malaysian in the final of the British Open in May, reversing the result from the 2013 final.

However, Massaro had already claimed her first world title back in March in David's hometown of Penang with a win over Egyptian Nour El Sherbini, who had knocked out the seven-time world champion at the semi-final stage.

England's Jennifer Duncalf lost out to David in the final in Delhi and she is seeded eighth for Glasgow, while compatriot and fourth seed Alison Waters and Malaysian fifth seed Low Wee Wern will also be expected to contend for honours.

David and Wee Wern are seeded fourth in the women's doubles competition behind England's Emma Beddoes and Alison Waters, Australian pair Kasey Brown and Rachael Grinham and top seeds Massaro and Duncalf.

The English duo claimed a silver medal in Delhi last time out losing to New Zealanders King and Jaclyn Hawkes.

King and Martin Knight are seeded second in the mixed doubles event behind the Australian duo of Brown and Pilley, who denied them gold in the final four years ago.

Australia's Rachael Grinham and Palmer are seeded third ahead of England's Barker and Alison Waters and fifth seeds Dipika Pallikal and Ghosal of India.

The squash competitions at Glasgow 2014 will take place at the Scotstoun Sports Campus with the singles events running from July 24 to 28 followed by the doubles from July 29 to August 3.

The draw will be announced on July 17.
