"As the newly-appointed President of WSA, I would just like to say what an honour it is to represent the players and I am committed to do everything I can to promote the tour and women's squash," said the 28-year-old.

The old Board, which included chairman Ingrid Lofdahl-Bentzer, President Aisling Blake, Antony Lee, Emma Beddoes and Melody Francis, have all stepped down from their posts at the WSA at the request of the membership following what has proved a frustrating year for the sport.

As well as failing to earn a spot on the Olympic Programme for Tokyo 2020, the WSA has had problems securing a venue for the delayed 2013 Women's World Open Squash Championships, leaving the future of the event in jeopardy.

Luckily, earlier this month, the Malaysian city of Penang stepped in and offered to host the event in March.

It will mark the third time the event had been held in the country but the first time in the Penang region, which harbours extra significance because it is the home of Nicol David, winner of the last five editions of the World Championships.

The new WSA Board, elected by the membership, also includes Americans Ashley Bernhard and Nathan Dugan, England's Jenny Duncalf and Laura Massaro and Dutchwoman Marjolein Houtsma

They are joined by Latasha Khan, another American, who will be chair.

It will be hoping to bring a fresh approach to the WSA and breathe new life into the sport following the disappointments of 2013.

"These directors offer a variety of skills and qualifications and I look forward to working with them to make decisions on behalf of the players and for the good of the Association," said former world number five Brown.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing Board for all the time and effort they have put in, which has set a solid foundation to grow the tour.

"We will continue the WSA vision to Inspire; Empower; and Entertain: Inspire future female generations to embrace squash as a professional sport; Empower girls and women on and off the court; and Entertain the world."
