150471872April 4 - Following an incredible run of form, Ramy Ashour has smashed the record average points total for the Dunlop Professional Squash Association (PSA) Men's World Squash Rankings after staying undefeated since last May, accumulating 36 consecutive wins.

The 25-year-old Egyptian has amassed an unprecedented 1,872.50 ranking points; over 700 more than his nearest rival, Nick Matthew of England, who inflicted Ashour's last defeat in the final of the British Open almost a year ago.

With final appearances in all nine of the PSA events he has competed in over the past 12 months, including eight title wins, the Cairo-born player took his most recent title at the Kuwait PSA Cup two weeks ago, defeating Englishman James Willstrop in the final.

"The latest PSA World Tour rankings certainly reflect the remarkable consistency Ramy is showing on the PSA World Tour," said PSA chief operating officer Lee Beachill, himself a former world number one.

"For any player to put together an unbeaten run of 36 matches in the era is incredible, particularly given the very high standard and depth currently on the Tour."

"His attitude on and off the court is very endearing and he is a fantastic role model for our
sport."

Elsewhere in the rankings, Matthew remains in second while Willstrop leapfrogs Frenchman Gregory Gaultier into third place following his impressive win at the Canary Wharf Classic in London, and Egyptian Karim Darwish overtakes compatriot Mohamed El Shorbagy into fifth place after defeating him in the final of the CIMB KL Open on Sunday.

Another Egyptian, Tarek Momen, becomes the fifth-highest ranked player from his country as he reaches a career best tenth place on the rankings after an impressive showing at KL Open, reaching the quarter-finals unseeded.

England and Egypt remain as the dominant forces in the sport, with six Englishmen and six Egyptians present in the top 20 world rankings.
