September 8 - WTBA has announced the venues for upcoming World Championships in 2015 and 2016The World Tenpin Bowling Association, soon to be known as World Bowling, has announced that Sam's Town in Las Vegas will host the 2015 World Senior Championships while Doha will stage the World Singles Championships in 2016.

Red Rock Lanes in Las Vegas hosted the inaugural World Senior Championships last month which saw Christir Danielsson of Sweden come out on top in the men's singles competition while American pair Ron Muhr and Hugh Miller claimed victory in the men's doubles.

Lucy Sandelin took gold in the women's singles competition ahead of Sweden's Christel Carlsson, however Sandelin and teammate Tish Johnson had to make do with silver as they lost out to Mexican duo Veronica Berumen and Teresa Piccini in the women's doubles competition.

Sweden claimed gold in both the men's and women's team events.

The 2015 tournament is scheduled to take place between July and September, as Sam's Town saw off rival bids from Vienna and Brussels.

"Sam's Town is tremendously honoured to be selected as the host of the World Senior Championships, and we look forward to welcoming the world's top senior bowlers back to Las Vegas in 2015," said John Sou, vice-President and general manager of Sam's Town.

Brussels also lost out in the bidding for the 2016 World Singles Championships as Doha was chosen ahead of the Belgian city and Finnish capital Helsinki to stage the second Championships following Limassol in 2012.

The dates for the 2016 event have yet to be finalised as Doha joins neighbouring city Abu Dhabi as a venue for international tenpin bowling tournaments following the awarding of the 2014 men's World Championships and the 2015 women's World Championships to the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

"We were extremely excited and impressed by the way the world bowling community embraced these inaugural events and look forward to growing them even further," said WTBA President and chief executive officer, Kevin Dornberger.

"Las Vegas and Qatar will be fantastic hosts, and we look forward to working with them to make our bowlers' experience second to none."

The WTBA recently announced that it is to change its name to World Bowling from 2014 as it launches a campaign to be shortlisted as one of the sports up for consideration for 2024 Olympic Games inclusion.
