The United States squad will be aiming for their first World Championship title in Finland ©Getty ImagesUnited States has unveiled a five-strong team for the 2015 World Wheelchair Curling Championships, to be held in Lohja, Finland.

The mixed gender squad boasts experience in the form of Patrick McDonald, Jimmy Joseph, Penny Greely and Meghan Lino, who all competed at Sochi 2014. 

They will be joined by newcomer Steven Emt after the team was narrowed down from a pool of eight athletes, following recent competitions and training camps.

The US team will be aiming to secure its first world title at the event, with their best finish to date at the Championships coming in 2008 in Eishalle Sursee in Sursee, Switzerland, where they secured a bronze.

At the ten-team Championships, the United States will come up against Paralympic gold medallists and current world champions Canada, having secured both titles in Sochi, in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

Canada are the most successful nation at the Wheelchair Curling World Championships, with three titles, having won the event in 2009, 2011 and 2013.

Sweden and China, silver and bronze medalists in 2013 are joined by Russia, Scotland, Slovakia and the United States in qualifying automatically, having finished in the top seven teams at the 2013 edition, alongside winners Canada.

They will be joined in the Championships by Germany and Norway, after both squads achieved their places in a qualification event held in Lillehammer, in November, while Finland complete the line up as the host nation of the event.

The Championships are due to take place between February 6 and 13.
