After a day's break, athletes took to the slopes again today for the middle-distance biathlon races.

Kononova picked up where she had left off on Sunday (January 25) as she led a Ukrainian clean-sweep in the women's standing event.

The long-distance Paralympic champion set a blistering pace throughout the 10 kilometres course to finish in a blazing time of 31min 05.3sec, more than 25 seconds clear of team mate Liudmyla Liashenko, who collected her third silver of the championships.

Iryna Bui shot clean to round off the podium in third.

From here it was a Russian onslaught as the nation captured 11 medals, including all five golds.

Vladislav Lekomtcev went quickest in the men's standing to record his second win of the Championships.

He clocked 32:41.2 to ski clear of Norwegian Nils-Erik Ulset, whose quick finished move him up to second.

Ukraine's Ihor Reptyukh came home in third for the bronze.

Russia's dominance continued to shine through in the men's sitting event where Grigory Murygin took the win in 37:58.1.

Behind him came team mate Alexey Bychenok, who shot perfectly to seal silver in 38:31.5, while Germany's Martin Fleig took bronze, his first medal in the World Championships.

The women's sitting event brought a Russian clean-sweep as the Nordic powerhouses began to turn the screw.

Maria Iovleva claimed top spot in 38:23.6, ahead of Irina Guliaeva and Marta Zaynullina, who finished in 39.03.3 and 39.11.5 respectively.

Their team-mate and defending world champion Nikolay Polukhin, guided by Andrey Tokarev, made it back-to-back biathlon gold medals in the men's visually impaired,  as he led yet another Russian one-two-three.

The 2010 Vancouver gold medallist clocked a time of 34:03.2 to finish 43 seconds ahead of team mate Stanislav Chokhlaev and guide Evgenii Fatkhullin, while Vladimir Udaltcov and guide Ruslan Bogachev took bronze for their second medal of the competition.

Iuliia Budaleeva and guide Tatiana Maltseva rounded off the Russian success story as they claimed gold in the women's visually impaired in 34:03.9.

In second came Ukrainian duo Oksana Shyshkova and guide Lada Nesterenko, ahead of Russia's Elena Remizova, guided by Maksim Pirogov.

Competition is due to continue tomorrow with cross-country sprint events.
