Germany cruise to 2014 Women's World Wheelchair Basketball Championships with comfortable victory over France ©2014WWWBCParalympic champions Germany surged into the semi-finals of the 2014 Women's World Wheelchair Basketball Championships in Toronto, Canada after a convincing 70-25 victory over France.

The Germans have been peerless in the tournament so far, recording five victories out of five on their path to the quarter-finals.

France did little to buck this trend in today's encounter after falling 23-1 behind after just 10 minutes of play.

The German rout would continue for the rest of the half as they led by 29 coming into the break.

A French comeback in the second half was non-existence as they slipped further behind to allow the London 2012 champions to run riot on the court and end the match with a comfortable 45-point lead over their opponents.

"Actually, we expected them to be a bit stronger today," said Germany's Marina Mohnen, who had a game-high 18 points.

"It was a surprise that we were leading by 20 points after five minutes."

The Germans will now face the United States in the semi-finals after the defending champions edged past Great Britain in their quarter-final match-up.

This match saw the United States start the stronger of the two teams as they pulled into a five-point lead coming off for the first break.

Another strong period gave the US a nine point lead at the halfway point, before Great Britain rallied to within three on the restart.

The American women dug deep after this, putting pressure on the British defence and reaping the rewards as they gained another eight-point cushion before sealing the match 53-41 in the closing minutes.

Rebecca Murray was once again a stand-out figure as she netted 15 points to top the scoring chart for the fourth match in six.

A strong second half performance ensured hosts Canada progressed to the last four of the competition as they powered past Australia 63-47 to move a step closer to a fifth world Championship title.

A topsy-turvy first half saw Canada go into the break with a slight 33-29 advantage, before an 18-4 streak early in the second saw them stretch their lead to 53-37 after 30 minutes.

A Canadian three-pronged attack was led by Cindy Ouellet who notched 20 points and seven assists in the contest, while Janet McLachlan and Katie Harnock both scored 17 to ensure the hosts reigned supreme on court.

They will face one of their toughest tests yet if they are to make it through to the final with a semi-final encounter set up against the in-form Dutch team.

The Netherlands booked their spot in the semis with a 62-52 victory over a stern Chinese team, ensuring the London 2012 bronze medallists maintained their 100 per cent record for the tournament.

The Dutch women looked like they could run away with it early on as they took a quick 12-4 lead, however, a brilliant recovery saw China pull it back to within three as the buzzer called for the end of the first period.

The Netherlands found their stride again in the second as they extended their lead to 12, before China reduced the gap to 10 in the third.

The Netherlands' ability to force turnovers proved all important in the final period as they held out to keep the gap at 10 and book their spot in the semi-final.

Today's action also saw the last-place play-off between Brazil and Peru and ninth-place play-off between Japan and Mexico.

In the first match, Brazil dominated their South American counterparts 88-8 to leave Peru sitting bottom of the pile, while Japan secured ninth place with a 68-40 victory over the Mexicans.

Action continues tomorrow with both semi-finals as well as consolation matches between France and Great Britain, and China and Australia.
