April 6 - The victorious Bulldogs of Quebec celebrate their Canadian Championship win in Burlington ©Wheelchair Basketball CanadaA captain's performance from Maxime Poulin saw the Bulldogs of Quebec overcome provincial rivals Gladiateurs de Laval to claim the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) National Championship in Burlington tonight.

The clash was a rematch of last year's gold medal game and the Gladiateurs were looking to retain their Championship crown at the Haber Recreation Centre.

The match was a real see-saw battle throughout, with neither side able to establish anything like a commanding lead and the drama went right down to the final minute of the game.

The Bulldogs led by three going into the final 60 seconds, before Gladiateurs player Yvon Rouillard drew a foul while converting a clutch layup and dropped the ensuing free throw to tie the game at 62 apiece with 47 seconds remaining on the clock.

The Bulldogs swiftly regrouped and went straight down the court before working an opening for Poulin, who displayed nerves of steel to sink a two-pointer from play and secure a dramatic win for his side.

"This win is redemption for us and it's the first time we've won the Championship so this is really great for our team," said an ecstatic Poulin afterwards, who finished as the game's top-scorer with 33 points and picked up the most valuable player of the tournament award to boot.

The dethroned Gladiateurs were led by Carl Pelletier who top-scored with 20 points in the decider.

The British Columbia Royals took the bronze medal home following a convincing 79-58 win over the Variety Village Rebels.

Ross MacDonald was the main man for the Rebels, bagging 29 points, while Jesse McNalley and James Treuer led the ultimately fruitless offensive charge for the Rebels with 25 and 22 points respectively.
