Paralympic and European silver medallist Will Bayley added a silver to the singles gold he won on Thursday.

With team-mate Paul Karabardak, it was reigning class seven European champions Maxym Nikolenko and Mykhaylo Popov of Ukraine who posed the stiffest competition in the final.

The doubles proved to be the pivotal match, as the Ukrainian duo won a tight affair 13-11, winning the tie 3-1 to seal gold.

After the match Bayley said: "I'm really happy.

"It's been a long off season and I've trained really hard so to win gold in the singles and beat Popov twice 3-0 is very special."

The 26-year-old added: "I was really proud of Paul; Popov and Nikolenko haven't lost a doubles match for two years and we had match points against them.

"That's the closest we've come to beating them and hopefully we can beat them at the World Championships in China later this year."

Polish pair Marcin Skrzynecki and Piotr Grudzien won gold with a 3-0 win over Aaron McKibbin of Britain and Swedish partner and world number one Emil Andersson in the men's class eight competition.

The bronze medal went to Korea's Kim Mingyu and Kim Yongyong.

In the women's class 4/5 team event, British 14-year-old Megan Shackleton – together with former Commonwealth champion Sue Gilroy and Sweden's Anna-Carin Ahlquist – won silver.

It was Gilroy's match against Serbia that proved decisive in the battle for gold.

Having lost to Borislava Peric-Rankovic in the semi-final of the singles, Gilroy went down 3-2 in the singles rubber of their team event encounter.

The tie was won 3-2 by Serbia.

There was more team success for Poland in the class 11 event, with Krystyna Siemieniecka and Dorota Nowacka winning gold.

Croatia's Andjela Muzinic and Helena Dretar won gold in the women's team class 1-3, while team class 6-7 victory was secured by Russia's Raissa Tchebanika and Ulija Shishkina.

In the other men's team event, Sweden's Alexander Ohgren partnered Jordan's Asama Abu Jame to class 3 gold.

GB performance director Gorazd Vecko said: "There were some really good performances, but there were also some that could have been better.

"Our young players did really well and showed great potential and for Will Bayley to win gold in the singles against all the top players in the world was brilliant."
