Purdy, winner of two golds at Sydney 2000, took victory in the S6 100 metres backstroke race with a time of 1min 22.10sec, however the 34-year-old veteran wasn't satisfied with his performance.

"The speed wasn't there," he said,

"Technically I am doing a lot of different things in my stroke

"The mindset I've now got is to get into controlled, efficient swimming.

"It takes a little bit more time."

Purdy's teammate Aurelie Rivard continued her excellent performance at the meeting as she won the S10 100m freestyle in 1:01.51, before coming second in the S10 100 backstroke.

Rivard was at the double yesterday with victory in the S10 200m individual medley and the S10 50m freestyle, and she ensured she rounded off the event in style, giving her confidence going into two crucial events this summer, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championships in Glasgow and the Parapan American Games in Toronto.

Elsewhere, Canada's Danial Murphy broke three of his own Canadian records as he swam the S5 50m butterfly in 48.52sec, before posting a time of 3:01.52 in the 200m freestyle, and his fruitful day was complete when he managed 1:27.62 in the 100m freestyle.

As has been the case throughout the event, held at the same venue which will stage the Pan American and Parapan American Games, the American team also enjoyed another record-breaking final day.

Robert Griswold, Kayla Wheeler and Michelle Konkoly all clinched Pan American records, with Griswold achieving the feat in the 100m backstroke, while Wheeler did the same in the S2 100m freestyle race.

Konkoly meanwhile swam a 1:03.32 in the S9 100m freestyle to finish the competition in strong fashion, and compatriot Alyssa Gialamas, who represented America at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, sealed her first American record of the meeting thanks to an excellent showing in the 100m free S5 category, where she posted a time of 1:34.31.

The event in Toronto saw 200 athletes from 11 different countries compete and it forms part of the qualification process for the World Championships  and Parapan American Games.
