New Zealand Paralympic swimming hopefuls have taken part in a development camp in Albany ©PNZ/FacebookNine swimmers that dream of one day representing New Zealand at the Paralympic Games have taken part in a special development camp at the AUT Millennium high performance sports facility in Albany.

Tayla Clement, Chris Arbuthnott, Hamish McLean, Taine Morrissey, Olivia Hay, Olivia Upston, Tupou Neifu, Kate McKelvie and Sarah Fuhrer, who are at the top end of the Paralympics New Zealand Para-Swimming Development Programme, and their coaches took part in three pool sessions and dry land training, while working closely with national development coach Gary Francis to develop their skills.

They also took part in sessions on strength and conditioning with expert Marissa Downes and anthropometric measuring with bio mechanist Jodi Cosser, as well as receiving information from national anti-doping body Drug Free Sport NZ.

"The camp was a great opportunity for swimmers and coaches to work together sharing knowledge and expertise," Francis said of the event, which was supported by High Performance Sport New Zealand.

"For me, it allows me the chance to see the coaches working close up with their swimmers and develop a team environment that is crucial for the swimmers and coaches who aspire to move to the next level and perform on the international stage."
