The 18-year-old outshone three-time champion Iulian Serban from Romania, who was consigned to silver on this occasion, whilst Ukraine's Yuriy Kikhayev took the bronze.

"The challenge was to beat the Romanian," said Kierey after claiming the world title.

"I beat the challenge so I'm happy."

A three-time champion did notch another world title in the event organised by the International Canoe Federation (ICF) on the day however, as Fenando Fernandes of Brazil became a four-time world champion in the K1 Men 200m A, though he was pushed close by Britain's Ian Marsden, who eventually took silver, coming in less than a second behind the Brazilian.

Fernandez admitted that his fourth world title had proved to be the toughest yet.

"Here it's more difficult," he said.

"Guys are more strong and prepared.

"I need to be very focused.

"In Brazil, when I started we had only five athletes, now we have over 70.

"Paracanoe is different because you are free, you are strong, you are beautiful.

"The guys with disability look at this and want to do it."

The bronze medal went to 19-year-old German, Christian Mathes.

Britain did get their hands on a gold in the V1 women's 200m LTA as Andrea Green showed grit and determination to come out on top of an experienced field.

"I had a little bit of a slow start then got into my stride," said the world champion.

"I just thought power stroke, power stroke and gradually people disappeared from my periphery."

K1 champion Christine Gauthier of Canada won the silver medal whilst Anya Pierce of the United Statestook the bronze.
