March 25 - Doha will follow Lyon as the next host of the IPC Athletics World Championships in 2015 ©Getty Images Doha's Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium has been confirmed today as the venue for the 2015 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics World Championships.

Following a three-day visit by IPC officials, the 15,000-seater Stadium got the nod to stage the Championships, which are due to place from November 19 to 28 next year.

The venue is home to the Qatar Sports Club, whose football team play in the Qatar Stars League.

It was used as a venue for the 2011 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup and its eight lane Mondo track annually hosts the first International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League meeting of the year.

Adjacent to the Stadium there is also an eight lane Mondo warm-up track.

It has also been announced that that the eight lane tracks at the Al Saad Club and the Al-Arabi Club will be used as training venues for teams.

"We were extremely impressed with all the facilities we saw during our three-day visit to Doha and were quite frankly spoilt for choice," said IPC Athletics senior manager Ryan Montgomery.

"Doha as a city has a superb track record for staging major international sporting events and the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium is no stranger to hosting major athletics meetings.

"The 2015 World Championships will be the last major global gathering of athletes ahead of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and there can be few venues in the world with a more spectacular backdrop with the Doha skyline overlooking the track.

"All the facilities athletes will use during the Championships are world class and in close proximity to hotel accommodation.

"I am confident that as a result of the conditions created for athletes we will see many record breaking performances."

As revealed by insidethegames in 2012, Doha had put in a joint bid for the 2015 and 2017 IPC Athletics World Championships but the 2017 edition was awarded to London leaving the Qatari capital as the sole bidder for 2015.

Last week, Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, secretary general of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) announced the formal agreement has been signed with the IPC, for what will be the last major gathering of the world's best athletes before the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Lyon hosted the Championships last year and around 1,300 of the world's best disability athletes from 90 countries are expected to take part in the 2015 edition.
