Defence lawyer Barry Roux cross-examined Bennie Van Staden for a second day of the trial in Pretoria, challenging him on a number of items inside Pistorius' Pretoria home that had been moved.

Van Staden admitted he had moved a gym bag belonging to the Paralympic athlete, as well as bloodied towels and a duvet to check for further evidence, but had taken pictures beforehand.

He also admitted moving a cricket bat Pistorius says he used to batter down the toilet door by "millimetres".

But he said he did not know who moved other objects including a television remote control and a fan.

Pistorius, 27, is accused of the premeditated murder of his 29-year-old girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on February 14 last year.

He says he shot her through a toilet door thinking she was an intruder.

During questioning, Van Staden was challenged on whether he and another police officer, Colonel Motha, were in the bathroom at the same time.

Van Staden had testified that he worked alone, but metadata used on each photo suggested the two were taking pictures at the same time.

"You did not see Colonel Motha?" Roux asked.

When Van Staden said he had not, Roux probed sarcastically: "How big is this bathroom?"

He said he was called to the scene at 4.50am on the morning of Steenkamp's fatal shooting.

The court also heard from police ballistics expert Captain Christian Mangena.

He said he had measured Pistorius' prosthetic legs with them on and off the athlete to determine whether he was wearing them or not when he fired the shots.

His testimony is due to continue tomorrow, day 13 of the trial.
