Richard Whitehead stars in a new interactive film launched by Nissan ©Getty ImagesFans are being offered the chance to win trips to the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games with the launch of a new interactive film, which allows users to take part in a unique initiative involving Paralympic champion Richard Whitehead and global car manufacturer Nissan.

The film called "Race for the plane to Rio" is part of the #UniteAndExcite campaign launched by Nissan in January, which aims to provide Olympic and Paralympic fans with exclusive behind the scenes access to athlete's stories and preparation for Rio 2016.

Fans can help influence Nissan ambassador Whitehead with a series of interactive challenges.

If their support can boost Richard to a podium position, they can be entered into a prize draw to win trips to the Rio 2016 Games.

Users power the race by either tapping (on the screen or the keyboard) or cheering (picked up via the device microphone) at three moments of interaction during the film according to creators TBWA\London.

These interactions consist of reactive canvas animations combined with real-time web audio effects.

The film then loads a series of HTML5 videos dynamically which are sequenced based on the levels of support shown, so the outcome is rarely the same twice.

"It's fantastic to be working with innovators like Nissan, on this exciting 'Race for the plane to Rio' campaign," said Whitehead, who won T42 200 metres gold at London 2012.

"To be supporting and encouraging the public to support British athletes, two years out from the Rio 2016 Games is great, and it's that support that can really make a difference to your performance."

Whitehead, who completed 40 marathons in 40 days last year as part of a charity campaign, is among a number of high profile British athletes, including fellow Paralympic champion Stef Reid, who are set to be supported by Nissan in the build-up to Rio 2016.

Nissan is the official automotive partner of Team GB and ParalympicsGB and will provide vehicles to each of their sponsored athletes.

"Supporting Team GB and ParalympicsGB is something that we believe in," said marketing manager at Nissan Motor GB, John Parslow.

"We want to enable British fans to be a part of Rio 2016 success by showing their support for our athletes.

"Through a range of innovative projects, we will be behind the teams at every step of the way to Rio in 2016."
