The DRS "Together we can get the ball rolling" campaign is aimed at promoting inclusion ©DRSDeutscher Rollstuhl-Sportverband (DRS), the German wheelchair sports association, has launched a campaign titled "Together, we can get the ball rolling", which is aimed at creating sustainable public awareness of inclusion for wheelchair users.

The nationwide scheme wants to highlight the challenging "needs of wheelchair users" and hopes that better inclusion can be achieved as a result.

In a statement the DRS said that "obstacles and barriers are to be reduced, not only in everyday life, but also in the mind".

It added: "It was an order to all social groups, to pave the way for a joint interaction and to assist in the application - because: by inclusion all win."

The campaign hopes to influence and change political and general perception of people who use a wheelchair, with several well-known German athletes, including multiple Paralympic swimming medallist Kirsten Bruhn, supporting the campaign.

The initiative also allows able-bodied people to experience wheelchair sports, such as the chance to participate in a wheelchair obstacle course, aimed at highlighting the challenges of life in a wheelchair.

"We want to inform the general public about the possibilities of inclusion through sport and open more doors for the basic work of all sport clubs, so that in the future more sports include facilities for people with and without disabilities," said Ulf Mehrens, chairman of the DRS.
