The 2015 Torball European Cup will take place in Poland ©IBSASuprasl in Poland will play host to the 2015 International Blind Sport Federation (IBSA) European Torball Cup, it has been announced.

The continental event, due to take place from October 23 to 26, is open to national club champions across Europe, with both male and female teams set to compete, the IBSA Torball Committee revealed.

It will be organised by the Polish Goalball and Torball Association with the approval of the Polish Sports Association for the Disabled, the country's IBSA-affiliated organisation.

A sport for the blind and visually impaired played by two teams of three players, torball is not part of the Paralympic programme due to its similarity with goalball, part of the Games since Arnhem 1980.

While goalball medals at London 2012 were won by nations spanning three continents - with Finland and Japan respective male and female champions - torball is particularly popular in Central Europe, although it is also played elsewhere, particularly in parts of Africa and South America.

The IBSA Torball World Championships will also take place this year, in Magglingen in Switzerland in June, while other international competitions are held on an annual basis.

Last year's European Torball Cup in Innsbruck saw the Russian Blind Sports Federation win the women's event, while Italian side GSDNV Onlus Trento took the corresponding men's competition.
