Agreement for the new athlete registration system was signed between the IBSA and IPC in Bonn last year ©IBSAA new athlete registration system was launched today by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA).

The new system comes on-line following an agreement signed in Bonn last year between IBSA President Jannie Hammershoi and Xavier Gonzalez, chief executive of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

The IBSA will now make use of a similar system to the one used by the IPC for the registration of members and athletes.

It will be a solid and secure database providing for the blind sports movement, the groundwork for registration, classification cards and licensing, events, it is claimed.

From today all IBSA athletes must be registered on the IBSA Sport Administration System (ISAS).

For each athlete the database will hold a photograph, passport/identity card, eligibility form, a biography and a unique IBSA/ISAS license and Identity card which can be shown at each competition in which they participate.

The system was developed in association with the IPC but there will be a separate IBSA template and independent access information.

It means the IBSA will have all data regarding athletes registered on a central database.

They have warned that no athlete can be presented for classification without first being registered on the ISAS.

The aim is for the new system to be completed by the time of next year's Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The first event the data will be available for are the 2015 IBSA Goalball European Championships - Men C in Malmö, Sweden, scheduled to start on February 1 and the IBSA Judo World Cup in Eger, Hungary, due to start on February 20.
