The inaugural national event is being supported by the International Paralympic Committee's development arm, the Agitos Foundation, with the aim being to raise awareness of Para-sport in Argentina through a festival atmosphere.

Around 7,000 tickets are available for the celebrations later today, which includes live entertainment for all the family in the city's Luna Park.

There will be demonstrations by the national football seven-a-side, wheelchair basketball and table tennis teams, as well as a showcase of wheelchair tennis by world number four singles player Gustavo Fernandez.

The National Paralympic Day will also feature the presentation of a commemorative award to Argentine medallists from the Tokyo 1964 Paralympic Games to celebrate 50 years since the Games were held, while the National Paralympic Committee will present the EXPA Awards for Paralympic excellence for each sport featured at the Paralympic Games.

This award is designed to recognise athletes, coaches, doctors, volunteers, team leaders and other figures involved in encouraging and promoting the Paralympic Values of courage, determination, inspiration and equality.

The Argentine National Paralympic Day follows similar events held across the globe, including in Great Britain, while Ecuador and Ghana are set to announce their own National Paralympic Days in the near future.
