Held in conjunction with the APC General Assembly, which saw Majed Rashed elected the new President, the awards looked to give recognition to Asia's best Para-athletes over the past year.

Furong of China took the best male award after his superb performance at the Asian Para Games in Incheon earlier this year.

The swimmer became the most decorated athlete there after picking up six gold medals, breaking three Asian and three Games records.

The 22-year-old only took up swimming in 2005 but quickly became one of its best performers, winning four gold medals at the Asian Games in Guangzhou in 2010.

He also won a gold, silver and bronze medal at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Asian Para Games double gold medallist Sareh Javanmardidodmani of Iran was awarded the prize for Best Female Athlete following a record-breaking performance in Incheon.

The Iranian broke two world records en route to her victories in the women's 10 metre and mixed 50m air pistol SH1 competitions.

This remarkable feat came on the back of her heroics at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Championships in July where she became the only Iranian woman to claim a gold medal.

The awards ceremony also saw Japan's Miki Kamada pick up Best Female Youth Athlete after winning three gold medals and a silver at the 2013 Asian Youth Para Games, followed by two bronze medals at the 2014 Asian Para Games.

China's Wang Hao was awarded the trophy for Best Male Youth Athlete.

Wang, who started athletics training five years ago at the age of 14, blew away the competition to take three gold medals at the Asian Youth Para Games in 2013.

A repeat performance won him another three top-of-the-podium finishes at the Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games.

Teamwork was also rewarded at the awards ceremony and the National Paralympic Committees whose teams recorded the best achievements were selected.

The Best Team Sports Performance Female recipient was China and the Best Team Sports Performance Male was won by Iran.

An APC Special Recognition Award was presented to Uzbekistan and South Korea to reward their progress as a nation at the Asian Para Games.

Uzbekistan showed a marked improvement by placing fifth in Incheon with their collection of 31 medals, including 22 gold, compared to only one gold in 2010 in Guangzhou and an 18th place finish.

In Guangzhou four years ago, South Korea took home 27 gold medals.

On home ground, at the Incheon 2014 Games, the athletes smashed this own record, amassing 72 golds en route to a total of 211 medals.
