The UAE NPC has announced that Majid Al Osaimi will run for AFC Presidency ©IPCUnited Arab Emirates Disabled Sports Federation vice-president Majid Al Osaimi will run for President of the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC), the UAE National Paralympic Committee has announced.


The elections are due take place during the APC's forthcoming Assembly in Abu Dhabi between November 28 and December 4.

Malaysia's Dato Zainal Abu Zarin is the founding member and first and only President of the APC, which replaced the Asian Paralympic Council in 2006.

The NPC confirmed the nomination in Dubai where Ibrahim Abdul Malik, secretary general of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, described Al Osaimi as a dedicated and experienced candidate, well-known for promoting disability sports in the UAE.

"We hope he will win the elections for APC Presidency," said Malik.

"It would be an achievement for all the UAE, and not only for Al Osaimi."

Al Osaimi noted that the development of disabled sports in the UAE was initiated and backed by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE.

He also lauded Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, for their support of disabled sports.

The APC is an organisation based in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur and has a membership of 41 NPCs.
