After a bumper 31 days of sporting success, the Allianz Athlete of the Month was split into three categories by the IPC - Best Male, Best Female and Best Youngster.

With Best Male and Best Female decided, it is the turn of Best Youngster.

Six athletes have been nominated for the gong.

At 13, Chantalle Zijderveld of The Netherlands is the youngest nominee.

She took gold in the 100 metres breaststroke SB9 in a new European record time on home soil at the IPC Swimming European Championships in Eindhoven.

Briton Maria Lyle, who is 14, won double gold at the IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea in the women's 100m and 200m T35.

Two other Britons have also been put forward for the award - Para-triathlete Lauren Steadman who caused a surprise at the Triathlon World Championships in Edmonton, Canada by winning the PT4 category, and swimmer Andrew Mullen who won four gold medals in Eindhoven.

Italian Federico Morlacchi has been nominated after winning five gold medals in the pool in Eindhoven, with American swimmer Ian Silverman in contention after breaking a 13-year-old world record in the 400m freestyle S10 at the 2014 Pan Pacific Para-Swimming Championships in Pasadena, California.

The public cote will stay open until noon Central European Summer Time next Friday (September 26).

The Best Male award was won by Ukrainian swimmer Yevheniy Bohodayko, while Italian Para-equestrian rider Sara Morganti was named Best Female yesterday.
