Wasps star James Haskell (right) joined British team member Ben Steele to launch a partnership with the organisers of the Invictus Games ©Invictus GamesA partnership between Aviva Premiership outfit London Wasps and the Invictus Games will see the rugby side wear a special limited edition shirt to promote the event during its upcoming match with Saracens.

Wasps will wear the special away shirt when they take on their London rivals Saracens during the Aviva Premiership double-header at Twickenham Stadium on September 6.

The other match on the day features London Irish taking on Harlequins.

The partnership will also see Wasps' players support a wheelchair rugby training session in Bristol on Thursday (August 28).

England back-rower James Haskell was joined at the Copper Box Arena launch by former Royal Air Force Regiment Gunner and Lance Corporal Ben Steele, part of the British team taking part in the Games at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from September 10 to 14.

Wasps have a strong affiliation with the Armed Forces, following successful partnerships with Help for Heroes at the club's first St George's Day fixture, while the British Limbless Ex-Service Men's Association, Combat Stress, The Parachute Regiment Charity and The Special Boat Service Association benefited from the second year of the fixture.

"It's fantastic that Wasps are supporting such an incredible event and giving Invictus Games another platform on which to boost its profile during their first year," said 29-year-old Haskell, who has made over 50 international appearances for England.

"Hopefully, having Invictus Games so visible at the London Double Header will help them to gain significant exposure on BT Sport and generate interest among thousands of fans at Twickenham.

"Over the past few years it has been brilliant to see the overwhelming support for our Armed Forces and a genuine appreciation of the incredible job they do to protect us.

"I know there is no prouder moment than to represent your country.

"These guys do it daily, and their commitment, regardless of the risk to themselves, is inspirational."

The Invictus Games will see more than 400 injured service personnel from 14 nations taking part in nine adaptive sports - athletics, archery, wheelchair basketball, road cycling, powerlifting, indoor rowing, wheelchair rugby, swimming and sitting volleyball.

There will also be a unique driving challenge organised by Games presenting partner, Jaguar Land Rover.

Steele is part of the 130-strong British team competing at the Games and will be competing in wheelchair rugby.

"When I lost my left leg in September 2012 I thought my life was going to change for the worst," said Steele, who was involved in a serious motorcycle accident in the UK while serving in the Military Provost Guard Service.

"But in fact, the opposite has happened and I've actually been introduced to more sport and activities than ever before, including wheelchair rugby.

"I've always been an adrenaline junkie and I love the fact that it's such a fast and furious sport with an element of danger.

"Sport has helped me conquer my injury and I'm determined to not let it control my life.

"You can do whatever you want with the right attitude.

"I am now looking forward to competing in the Invictus Games with that same positive approach.

"It's not going to be easy so we need as much support in the Copper Box as possible.

"I can promise you it's going to be an awesome show."

Tickets for the Invictus Games are priced at £12.85 ($21.45/€16) and can be purchased here.
