The International Paralympic Committee has reported a record €12.79 million revenue ©IPCThe International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has reported a record revenue of €12.79 million (£10.1 million/$17.2 million) for 2013.

The year brought a landmark in broadcasting for the Bonn-based governing body, as it took over the sale of broadcast rights from organising committees.

This enabled it to secure innovative two-Games deals covering the Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 Paralympics in a number of major territories, including critically the United States.

In its newly-published annual report, the IPC noted that, after showing "minimal coverage" of the London 2012 Paralympic Games, "NBC Olympics and the United States Olympic Committee partnered to acquire the US media rights to the next two Paralympic Games", with NBC's networks agreeing to "devote 116 combined hours of coverage to the Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 Paralympics".

Other deals were concluded with NHK in Japan and Channel 4 in the United Kingdom.

Most funds raised from such deals go to organising committees, but the IPC received commission for each agreement.

The body's list of sponsors is also growing, with BP unveiled last December as an international partner.

The IPC said that contributions from its sponsors accounted for 17 per cent of core income.

Expenditure also rose, with executive office costs up to nearly €626,000 (£496,000/$843,000), from just over €369,000 (£293,000/$497,000) in 2012, and administration up to €4.35 million (£3.45 million/$5.86 million) from €3.77 million (£2.99 million/$5.08 million) in 2012.

Sir Philip Craven, IPC President, said that an increase in workload saw the number of people employed full-time by the IPC grow from 49 to 66.

"Due to the increased staff numbers, the IPC moved into a second building just a short walk away from the main office," he reported.

With the sports budget, including grants to sports and competition organisers, surging from €1.23 million (£975,000/$1.66 million) to €4.29 million (£3.40 million/$5.78 million), overall expenditure reached €12.77 million (£10.13 million/$17.19 million), leaving a positive result of just over €15,000 (£12,000/$20,000).

Sir Philip, who was re-elected in November to a final term as President, said that the body had delivered "impressive results in all areas during 2013".
