The successful candidate will assist former three-time Paralympic swimming champion Elisabeth Walker-Young, who was appointed in May as Canada's Chef de Mission for the Games.

The Assistant Chef de Mission role involves an important level of responsibility and requires a considerable commitment of time, energy and effort, according to the CPC.

The successful candidate is expected to support the leadership provided by the Chef de Mission in relation to the Canadian Team Mission.

Key responsibilities will include participation in site visits, regular conference calls and/or mission staff meetings, national events, selection trials, training events, the Chef de Mission Seminar, Mission Orientation Seminar and the Games themselves, which run from August 7 to 15.

The CPC says it will cover the travelling expenses to meetings, seminars and the Games, in addition to accommodation and meal costs incurred while fulfilling Assistant Chef de Mission responsibilities.

Essential qualifications being sought in potential candidates include a variety of experiences and skills demonstrating ability to support, lead, motivate and foster team building and excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.

The CPC is also looking for someone who can demonstrate an ability to work effectively with athletes, coaches and team officials and with a background and expertise in problem-solving and crisis management.

The closing date for receipt of applications is August 15.
