Martin won five events and set a world record at last month's International Paralympic Committee Grand Prix Desert Challenge in Mesa, Arizona.

He lowered his own T52 200 metres world record by 16 hundredths of a second, finishing in 30.02sec.

Martin, who won four gold medals at the London 2012 Paralympics, also won the T52 100m, 400m, 800m and 1.500m in Mesa.

Paralympic cyclist Will Groulx was voted into second place in the vote to choose May's outstanding US athletes.

Martin is no stranger to USOC awards, having being named Sportsman of the Year for 2012-2013.

The Female Athlete of the Month award was won by triathlete Gwen Jorgensen, who won back-to-back titles in the World Triathlon Series.

Team of the Month was the 4x100m women's relay team, after their victory at the inaugural World Relays in Nassau, the Bahamas.

Each National Governing Body can nominate one female, one male and one team per discipline for the awards.

A panel chooses the winners from the pool of nominees, with fan voting via Twitter accounting for 10 per cent of the total vote.
