River Plate StadiumApril 21 - Buenos Aires bid to host the 2018 Youth Olympic Games has been strengthened after two of the venues earmarked to host events at the Games should they win the bid were ranked in the top 10 stadia in the world by  American digital sports media network Bleacher Report.

The Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti, home of Argentina's most successful football team, River Plate, and Estadio Alberto J. Armando, home of rivals Boca Juniors, were ranked fifth and ninth respectively in the list.

Buenos Aires is also the only city on the list to have two stadiums featured in the top 10.

The list was compiled according to criteria such as: capacity and record attendances, tournaments and showpiece events they have hosted and the memorable moments that have taken place there.

River Plate's stadium, known as El Monumental - which would host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games should Buenos Aires' bid be successful - is considered as Argentina's national stadium and hosted one of the most famous games in the country's history when they defeated the Netherlands to lift their first FIFA World Cup in 1978.
