Local beauty spots celebrated in new Sochi 2014 commemorative stamps

May 5 - The latest range of stamps for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympics have been released following a launch event at the city's Dendrarium Park.

The stamps depict some of the most well known views from around the Krasnodar region, including the Dendrarium Park which features a unique collection of landscape art modelled on French-Italian terraced parks.

Other spectacular sights captured on the stamps include the Parus Rock, a striking geological monolith which is 30 metres tall and shaped like a rectangular sail.

The Orekhovsky waterfall – the second highest double cascade waterfall in Sochi – is also featured. 

At the launch ceremony, the United Nation's head of their Environmental Programme (UNEP), Theodore Oben, emphasised the strong link between Sochi 2014 and the UNEP, with sustainability being a key part of the Sochi 2014 message.

Oben was joined by representatives from the Russian post service, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Sochi 2014 Philatelic Programme, which, set up last year, has seen over 10 million stamps produced to date.


There will be 700,000 copies of each stamp printed in denominations of 15, 20, 25 or 30 rubles.

The stamps are released as part of the "XXII Olympic Winter Games of 2014 Tourism on Russia's Black Sea Coast" series.

In all, some 45 different stamps will be issued in the build up to the Winter Olympic and Paralympics in 2014.
