USOC begin celebration for one year countdown to Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics

USOC logoFebruary 4 - The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) are celebrating one year to go to the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games on Thursday (February 7) with a full week of activities beginning today.

The celebrations from part of the USOC's "Road to Sochi" campaign which includes various opportunities for fans to engage with American Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic hopefuls.

The Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics are due to take place from February 7 until 23 in the Russia city with 15 disciplines set to take place in seven sports.

"The Road to Sochi is about sharing the inspirational stories of our athletes with the American public ahead of the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games," said USOC chief marketing officer Lisa Baird.

"Thanks to the tremendous Olympic efforts of NBCUniversal and other partners in the Road to Sochi program, like Hilton HHonors, Americans will get to know the 2014 US Olympians and Paralympians better than ever before in the 12 months leading up to the Sochi Games."

Celebrations get underway with several US Olympians and hopefuls featuring on NBC's Today.

One of the highlights will also see a mini-Olympic Festival in Rockefeller Plaza in New York where more than a dozen athletes will appear.

There will also be elements for public interaction, including bobsled and ski lift photo booths, the Omega countdown clock and more.

The USOC will host its first Road to Sochi media teleconference on Wednesday (February 6) with Olympic medallists and 2014 hopefuls including ice hockey player Julie Chu, bobsledder Steve Holcomb and alpine skier Julia Mancuso - as well as the USOC chief of sport performance Alan Ashley.
