The German delegation, headed by DOSB chief executive Michael Vesper, visited the Lausanne base for the meeting, which was led by the IOC's Olympic Games Executive Director Christophe Dubi.

The meeting was designed to help the DOSB find out more about the bidding race, the requirements for hosting the Games and the impact of the reforms brought in under Olympic Agenda 2020, such as the Invitation Phase itself.

"We had an excellent meeting and could go into depth in many points which we had discussed informally at different occasions before," Vesper said.

"It was a fruitful start in our cooperation with the IOC on an Olympic bid 2024."

Dubi claimed it was encouraging to see National Olympic Committees taking advantage of the Invitation Phase.

"It allows them to come and ask questions about the bid process and how Olympic Agenda 2020 can help them to deliver great Olympic Games for the athletes that fit into their city's long-term social, sports, ecological and economic objectives," he said.

"We were delighted to be able to welcome the DOSB to Lausanne today to answer their questions and give them information from the IOC on how best to maximise the legacies that a bid and the Games can deliver."

Germany is yet to choose the city it will put forward as its potential candidate in the race for the 2024 Summer Games when it selects either Berlin or Hamburg on March 21.

"The information we have received today helps for our upcoming planning." said Bernhard Schwank, the DOSB's director for international relations.

"The next workshop will follow most likely in May after the German Bid City has been picked."

Whichever city it chooses will go into competition for the hosting rights with Rome and Boston, which are the only official contenders to date.

Other potential bids could come from Paris, Baku, Doha, Istanbul and Budapest.

The deadline for submitting bids is September 15 and the IOC is due to choose the host city at its 2017 Session in Lima.
