Fact of the day

Shizo Kanakuri disappeared while running the marathon at the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm. He was listed as a missing person in Sweden for 50 years - until a journalist found him living quietly in southern Japan. Overcome with heat during the race, he had stopped at a garden party to drink orange juice, stayed for an hour, then took a train to a hotel and sailed home the next day, too ashamed to tell anyone he was leaving.

DB Schenker_logoFebruary 5 - DB Schenker has signed up as the global logistics partner of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Series.

The announcement was made by the ITU and its global marketing partner Upsolut.

DB Schenker, logistics company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG, will provide transportation and logistics services for the series.

The ITU World Series gets underway in Sydney, Australia on April 14 and 15, moving on to four continents on its journey back to Oceania and Auckland for the final leg on October 20 and 21.

The partnership with DB Schenker will last for three years.

ITU President Marisol Casado said: "The ITU World Triathlon Series is all about excellence so we are proud to welcome DB Schenker, a new partner that represents just that.

"World class delivery and logistics support from DB Schenker is a wonderful addition and will contribute to the continuing success of the ITU World Triathlon Series."

DB Schenker's Dr Thomas Lieb, the chairman of their management board, added: "We are excited to be partnering with the ITU World Triathlon Series.

"Triathlon events continue to grow and the level of competition at all levels is far reaching.

"So to that end, to support and provide logistics services to the ITU series is a great honour for us.

"Transporting the goods and equipment across the eight events is what our service offering is all about - on time and in full."

This is the fourth year of the World Triathlon Series, which has rapidly increased its global audience since its creation, reaching 207 million viewers in 2011.
