June 3 - McFly has been announced as the latest headline act to join the already star studded line up for the free BT London Live concerts taking place during this summer's Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The British chart toppers are set to perform a special set during a day that will be one of the highlights of London 2012 at Hyde Park on Saturday August 4 – already being dubbed "Super Saturday".
With 18 consecutive top 20 singles, including seven number ones, McFly have skyrocketed to become one of the biggest bands in the United Kingdom and fill arenas across Europe, in addition to performing in various charity projects such as Comic Relief, Children in Need, Live 8 and Sport Relief.
The band also performed at the official Olympic Games handover party (pictured above) outside Buckingham Palace as 40,000 people turned up to watch the handing over of the Olympic flag from Beijing 2008 to London 2012.
As well as watching the Brit Award winning four piece, visitors will get to see all of the Olympic sports and Medal Ceremonies of the day live on giant screens dotted around the London park, including the women's athletics 100 metres final, women's triathlon final, climax of the women's heptathlon, and swimming and rowing finals, with a total of 25 medals to be awarded.
BT London Live has already unveiled an impressive lineup of artists for its series of free concerts, including the likes of Sir Tom Jones, the cast of the Queen musical We Will Rock You, Feeder, Dodgy, The Levellers, Cast, Amy Macdonald, Paul Carrack and Kenny Thomas.
It is also hosting two Celebration Concerts in Hyde Park to coincide with the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, with Snow Patrol, Stereophonics, Duran Duran and Paolo Nutini performing at the Opening Ceremony Celebration Concert on Friday July 27, and Blur (pictured above) headline the Closing Ceremony Celebration Concert on Sunday August 12, alongside special guests New Order and The Specials.
