BBC London 2012 DVDJanuary 10 - The official BBC DVD of the London 2012 Olympic Games has become the best-selling sports DVD in the United Kingdom, according to figures from the Official Charts Company and the British Video Association.

With 550,000 sales, the seven-hour compilation, which features both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies as well as footage from the Games, has overtaken the previous best-selling sports and fitness DVD, The Ashes 2005- The Greatest Series, a compilation of footage from the England cricket team's famous win over Australia, which sold 501,000 copies.

"The London Olympics marked a phenomenal year for British sport and we are delighted that so many people have bought this wonderful souvenir of the Games and the fantastic achievements of Team GB." said Fiona Eastwood, product development director for BBC Worldwide.

Last year was the third time that London has hosted the Olympics, with the capital also hosting the Games in 1908 and 1948.

The 2012 Games also marked Great Britain's best performance at an Olympic Games since 1908, as athletes from the host country won 65 medals, including 29 gold, finishing third overall, behind only China and the USA.

The success of Team GB at London 2012 contributed to huge interest from the British public, with an estimated 51 million people, around 90 per cent of the population, watching some part of the Olympics on television.
