katie-taylor-PG-olympic-ambassador_31-08-11September 1 - Proctor & Gamble (P&G) have unveiled women's triple amateur boxing world champion and strong London 2012 Olympic gold medal prospect Katie Taylor as their ambassador for Ireland.

P&G are the manufacturers of many well-known household brands including Ariel, Crest and Gillette, as well as being TOP sponsors of the Olympics.

As a P&G ambassador, Taylor will work on the company's Irish marketing activities alongside her mum Bridget as they both become part of the P&G Proud Sponsor of Mums campaign, which puts the focus on mums by recognising, celebrating and thanking them for the important roles they play in their families' lives.

Taylor, the reigning International Boxing Association (AIBA) World Female Boxer of the Year, admitted that she is looking forward to working as part of the Proud Sponsor of Mums campaign as it is something that means a lot to her.

"I was delighted to be asked by P&G to be part of their campaign," said the 25-year-old from County Wicklow who boxes in the lightweight category.

"I am very close to my family and P&G's campaign keeps families at its core and that's important to me.

"I'm really looking forward to working on all aspects of the campaign."

As well as her three amateur world titles, Taylor has five amateur European gold medals and is a strong favourite to win gold in the 60kg weight category at London 2012 when women's boxing makes its debut at the Olympics.

"For more than 80 years in Ireland, Mum has been our boss," said Roisin Donnelly, the marketing director for P&G UK and Ireland.

"Mums have driven our product innovation and our marketing communication and it's for this reason we're putting Katie and her mum at the heart of this campaign."

The Proud Sponsor of Mums campaign will feature throughout P&G's sponsorship of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

P&G's Olympic Games partnership is the most far reaching in Olympic history, beginning with London 2012 and incorporating Sochi 2014, Rio 2016 and the 2018 and 2020 Olympic Games.

The sponsorship is the first to cover multiple brands under one sponsor and will span the next 10 years, over 30 product categories and 205 National Olympic Committees to raise awareness of and reward mums' contributions globally.

"We are delighted to have a global sponsor such as P&G on board and look forward to working with them for the benefit of Irish athletes as we prepare for London 2012," added President of the Olympic Council of Ireland Pat Hickey.
